Older-home and commuter moves near the Metra Electric and Amtrak station area.
Homewood blends older houses with commuter convenience: the Metra Electric and Amtrak station area sits near the heart of town. Many moves here involve people relocating for work in the city or downsizing from long-time homes.

If you commute on Metra Electric, pick a move day off. We schedule every day from 7AM to 8PM.
Near the station, streets can be busier during commute hours.
Leaving a long-time home is emotional and practical. Decide what goes, label it, and arrange pickups by family before the crew comes.
Even though Amtrak runs through town, our moves are local around Chicago and the suburbs. We do not do long-distance moves.
Older Homewood houses can have stairs that wind, doors narrower than you think and attic or third-floor rooms reached by a steep stair. Take a tape measure through the house and note the narrowest point on each route out. Compare it against your largest pieces: the sofa, the box spring, the dresser. If something is tight, we can plan disassembly or a different route.
Clear art, mirrors and rugs from the path. Original woodwork scuffs easily, so we take corners slowly and pad furniture, but a clear path is still the best protection.

If you take the Metra Electric to work, a weekday move may still be the easiest if you can take a day off, since weekends are popular. We schedule every day from 7AM to 8PM. Choose a window that leaves time to clean and return keys before your next workday.
Streets around the station area can be busier during commute hours. If your home is close, an earlier or midday start may make loading easier.
Some moves involve helping a parent move into a smaller home or closer to family. Talk through what they want to keep, label those pieces, and arrange for family members to pick up or receive items they are inheriting. On moving day, set up their bed, chair and essentials first so the new place feels like home right away.
Older houses often have basements with low ceilings and a narrow stair. Shelving, tool benches and old furniture collect there over the years. Sort the basement early, decide what goes, and list the heavy items so the crew can plan the carry up those steps.
Enclosed front porches are charming but add a second doorway, and storm doors swing into the path. Prop or remove storm doors for the day, clear porch furniture, and check the front walk for loose bricks or uneven steps. Mature trees can also drop branches low over the walk and driveway, so tell us if the truck will have trouble pulling close to the house.
